Oasis RV Resort, Las Vegas NV
The Big Bend of the Colorado was our last stop on this spring trip. While the weather was warm in Indio and Cattail Cove on Havasu Lake, it took a noticeable turn as we returned to Las Vegas, bringing much cooler temperatures.
On the last day at the Big Bend of the Colorado, I sat outside, and to my delight, our friendly neighbor roadrunner, Melvin, showed up. He was at ease, hanging out just 4 to 5 feet from my chair. The ranger told me that these birds are often bold enough to ask for treats like hot dogs and burgers since they are omnivores, and some indulge in them. I took plenty of photos of Melvin, although I chose not to feed him any treats.
The drive through the wilderness areas north of the Mojave Desert was captivating. We ascended a large plateau that offered sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. I spotted rain clouds looming west and noted that the desert was surprisingly greener than we had encountered nearer to Bullhead and Lake Mojave.

We landed in Oasis and set up a row of sites behind the pool. What a great row it was! There were four Brinkleys parked next to each other, with one exception: a non-Brinkley trailer next to us. We met Joe and Lynne in the Brinkley beside us and Sheri and Gordon in the non-Brinkley on the other side. Later, we joined Joe, Lynne, and other Brinkley owners in the lounge to discuss travel and campers. We enjoy meeting people on similar journeys; their stories are fascinating. For example, Gordon and Sheri are from Saskatchewan, Canada. They live on a farm in the prairie, as she calls it, where you can see for miles. Joe and Lynne reside in northeast Nevada and travel locally, primarily visiting California, Nevada, and Arizona. Perhaps we can convince them to explore the East Coast someday.
As we started to prepare for our return home, we needed to organize the camper, empty the fridge (a few "clean the fridge" meals), and set up our carry-on luggage. After a visit to the Arts District and a great lunch at Nevada Brew Works we were ready to leave.
We plan to stay at South Point Casino, which has many restaurants and events, including in-door rodeos. It will be fun!
